On Double Counterpoint

In order to obtain triple and quadruple counterpoint at the twelfth, it will be necessary, after first combining it according to its appointed rules, to proceed in the same manner as already done, with regard to counterpoint at the octave; that is to say, by taking care to avoid discords that are not passing ones, and by scrupulously observing contrary or oblique movements.

Example of a double counterpoint at the twelfth

In order to form a triple counterpoint from a double one, there need only be added a third part, either a third below the upper part, or a third above (or below) the lower part.
