Fifth Order: Florid Counterpoint
The rules established by the five orders 1) of two-part, three-part, and four-part counterpoint, must suffice for studying florid counterpoint, without need of adding new rules. Here is an example of the present order 2):

When the pupil has amply gone through these exercises, florid counterpoint should be introduced into two parts at a time, and, finally, into all the parts, with the exception of the one which contains the given cantus firmus.
